The General Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin), has highlighted public transport problems in DKI Jakarta, saying the issue is so acute that residents want to move away from the capital. ‘I asked ten people, ’Do you want to move away from Jakarta?’ All ten said yes. Why? After finishing work, at the MRT station, you can’t find a Gojek, you can’t find a Grab, you can’t find a GoCar, you can’t find a taxi, you can’t find any public transport; you could stand for hours, two to three hours every day when it rains,’ Cak Imin said at the inauguration of the PKB DKI Jakarta DPW office in East Jakarta on Sunday (8 March 2026). Then Cak Imin again asked whether the people would feel at home in Jakarta under those conditions. He concluded that the public transport problems in DKI Jakarta do not yet have a real solution. ‘But are you still comfortable in Jakarta?’ ‘Still.’ And that’s a simple example I asked; and every day they face the same problem. Why? Because there is no solution for public transport in Jakarta. Cak Imin even mentioned there is someone who could solve Jakarta’s problems if they became president. But he said everyone is just waiting. ‘And it’s left to be. Some used to say wait until you become president to fix it,’ he said. Some say wait for Hasbi (PKB DKI Chairman Hasbiallah Ilyas) to become governor, they say. Amen. But everyone waits, waits, because PKB’s solution for Jakarta is serious,’ he said. Cak Imin said he was grateful to see PKB’s DKI DPW beginning to show positive things. With the big theme PKB DKI is currently promoting, he is confident cadres can contribute to Jakarta. ‘The big theme is ’PKB Future Jakarta’. A fitting, cool theme. PKB Future Jakarta. Indeed, a good future is in the hands of marginalised people like these,’ he said. ‘That’s obvious; it has already been handed to a successful Jakarta entrepreneur, Pak Fauzi Bowo, a rich man of Jakarta. Yes, the same sort of thing. It was handed to a Chinese named Ahok, and it’s the same story.’ Cak Imin then said that Jakarta’s problems remain numerous despite changes of governors. He asked whether PKB cadres should step in as Jakarta governor. ‘But perhaps this will continue because we are waiting for a PKB cadre who becomes governor to solve everything. Brace yourself, I’m not sure Hasbi can do it. But people who are underestimated can prove you wrong. But his appearance is not convincing,’ he added. ‘But don’t worry; now is the time for those who are not counted to solve Jakarta’s problems. The three most severe Jakarta problems: first, transport; second, what? Flooding. Flooding has a single cause, so how can it be unsolved? Imagine if the problem had multiple sources. If the source is only one, it cannot be solved.’
