Cak Imin Highlights Crisis of Leadership Figures: 'We Are Not Seeking Image-Based Leadership'

Jakarta – DPP PKB Chairman Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, or Cak Imin, has called on his party’s young cadres to prepare themselves to become future leaders who are close to the people and capable of delivering tangible results for society. The message was conveyed by Cak Imin whilst attending the PKB Jabar Fest in Bandung, West Java. On that occasion, he stressed that Indonesia needs leaders who prioritise work and service, not merely building popularity in the public eye. “We are not seeking image-based leadership. What we are looking for is leadership that truly works and whose benefits are felt by the people,” said Cak Imin, as quoted on Monday, 15 June 2026. According to the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, PKB’s young cadres have a great opportunity to become the next generation that will determine the nation’s direction in the future. Addressing approximately 11,000 young cadres in attendance, Cak Imin expressed optimism that they are ready to continue the baton of national leadership. “I am grateful, these 11,000 young people are ready to replace us to lead this republic well,” he said. Cak Imin assessed that Indonesia currently needs more quality leadership figures. He even stated that over the past two decades or so, the nation has experienced a shortage of leadership figures capable of optimally addressing various national challenges. Therefore, he urged the young generation of PKB not only to be active in political activities but also to build their capacity through service and real work within society. Beyond discussing leadership regeneration, Cak Imin reminded that political parties have a responsibility to be continuously present with the community, not only when the general election momentum arrives. According to him, the role of a party must be felt in daily life, especially when people face economic, educational, health, or other social problems. “PKB must be a party that is present in the life of the community. A party must not only be present during elections, but must be present when the people need help, need solutions, and need hope,” he said. He added that political activity should be manifested in the form of service to the community, empowerment of groups in need, and various humanitarian activities that have a direct impact on the people.
