Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Muhaimin Iskandar, or Cak Imin, has responded to the proposal for an ‘instant ticket’ mechanism or direct registration system without long queues for Hajj departures. Cak Imin described the proposal as ineffective because many people have already been queuing for Hajj.

“I haven’t seen it as effective, because the queuing system is truly in place and people have been queuing for a long time,” said Cak Imin to reporters at the PKB DPP office in Central Jakarta on Friday (10/4/2026).

Cak Imin expressed sympathy for those who have already queued for a long time. He highlighted the plight of pilgrims who are just a few years away from departing for Hajj.

“I think so, those who have already queued for 5 years, it’s a pity. What about those who have queued and only have 2 years left? Especially those who have only 2 years left in their queue, what will happen to them?” he said.

Cak Imin stated that the proposal still has a long way to go before further discussion. He reiterated that the Hajj ‘instant ticket’ system remains merely a proposal.

“That’s still a proposal, it’s still far off, still a long process. It could happen, but one day after the process, it’s just a proposal like that,” he said.

Previously, the Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) has been studying a radical breakthrough to address the Hajj queuing issue that has persisted for decades. One emerging proposal is to implement an ‘instant ticket’ mechanism or direct registration system without long queues, similar to the Hajj departure process in the past.

Indonesia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, revealed that this idea stems from progressive thinking within the Ministry, including from the Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah. The aim is to find a solution so that prospective pilgrims do not have to wait too long to depart for the Holy Land.

“The thought emerged whether such a long queue is necessary? Why not consider returning to the era before the BPKH (Hajj Financial Management Agency) existed. Before BPKH, Insyaallah there were no queues,” said the Minister during the National Work Meeting (Rakernas) for Consolidation of Hajj Worship Implementation for 1447 H/2025 AD, held at the Grand El Hajj Hajj Dormitory (Cipondoh Hajj Dormitory), Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

Under this ‘instant ticket’ scheme, the government would later announce the Hajj costs for the current year and open registration on a specific date. Anyone who is financially and physically ready can register directly and depart in the same year.
