Cak Imin: BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Must Ensure Workers Do Not Fall into Poverty Due to Redundancy Risks

Jakarta, VIVA – Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) has affirmed that BPJS Kesehatan and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan must function as the state’s principal instruments for protecting the public’s economic capacity.

He emphasised that social protection is the key to preventing citizens from falling into poverty when confronted with life’s risks.

The remarks were delivered after Cak Imin inaugurated Prihati Pujowaskito as President Director of BPJS Kesehatan and Saiful Hidayat as President Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

“BPJS Kesehatan must be present to ensure that the public does not lose its capacity due to health risks. Likewise, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan must ensure that workers and their families do not fall into poverty because of occupational risks, redundancy, accidents, or death,” Cak Imin said in his directive.

Cak Imin urged the social security administrators to continuously improve their quality of service. He stated that the primary purpose of BPJS is to provide peace of mind, not to generate anxiety through poor service delivery.

“BPJS exists so that people can live without worry. It must never be the case that the public feels apprehensive about substandard services,” he said.

Furthermore, Cak Imin noted that robust social protection would create space for the public to “move up a class” in economic terms.

On the same occasion, he also affirmed that healthcare access for citizens is a constitutional right that is non-negotiable.

“The task of BPJS Kesehatan is to ensure that every citizen has access to that constitutional right. Not a single member of the public may be left behind or overlooked in receiving healthcare services,” Cak Imin concluded.
