Jakarta – Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Muhaimin Iskandar, known as Cak Imin, has affirmed that all party cadres are ready to carry out the struggle and mandate of its founder, Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), and other founding figures. This statement was made during the inauguration of PKB Branch Executive Boards for the 2026-2031 term from across Indonesia, held at Fatahillah Square in Jakarta’s Old Town on Wednesday evening. Cak Imin acknowledged that Gus Dur left a legacy of struggle not only for PKB but for the entire Indonesian nation. He asserted that the party is determined to continue this legacy. Reflecting on PKB’s 28-year history, which coincides with the age of Indonesia’s reform era, Cak Imin stated that the party was born from a historical vision to answer the needs of its nation. He reminded the thousands of attending branch executives that PKB was founded by individuals he described as ‘holy and noble’, who had no tendency to prioritise themselves, their groups, or their families. The Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment further explained that the party’s values of national service are deeply embedded in the political practices of its predecessors. Although PKB was born from the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) tradition and the initiative of Islamic scholars, its benefits and struggles are dedicated to all Indonesian people without exception.
