Cairo conference
Cairo conference
The use of contraception in population control has become a
controversial issue at the upcoming Cairo conference following
protests from both Moslems and Catholics.
Indonesia, for one, believes in traditional values in family
life. We expect that our presence at the conference will serve as
troubleshooters toward the controversial issues. This is also a
role assumed by Indonesian in many other international
conferences like OPEC, for example.
In its family planning program, Indonesia takes heed of what
religious leaders are saying. This is one of the reasons for the
success of its program.
Hopefully, Indonesia's experience will be of some benefit to
other countries attending the conference.
