Cafe owners to sue Yogya Mayor
YOGYAKARTA: Entertainment venue owners in Yogyakarta asserted on Monday that they would sue Yogyakarta Mayor Herry Zudianto over his policy to shut down all night spots during the Islamic holy month of Ramadhan.
"He must immediately stop the policy. If he fails to overturn this decree very soon, then we will file a lawsuit against him at the State Administrative Court," said Totok Purwanto, the owners' representative in the city.
Separately, Herry remained defiant and vowed to keep all places of entertainment closed throughout Ramadhan.
"We are ready to face them in court," he said confidently.
Herry maintained that the decision had been made in consultation with the Yogyakarta legislature, the police and also a group of people said to be representing the owners of the night spots, and thus had public support.
The policy took effect on Oct. 25 and will be effective until the last week of November. -- JP
