Cable TV channels in Pondok Indah

JAKARTA (JP): Kabelvision has launched 45 cable television channels for residents of the plush Pondok Indah housing area in South Jakarta, the Kabelvision company said in a statement released on Monday.

The channels, currently on trial only for Pondok Indah residents on Jl. Gedung Hijau and Jl. Pondok Hijau, will later also be available to other residents throughout Jakarta, provided they live on streets with electricity poles.

Subscribers to the cable TV service pay a connection fee of Rp 825,000 (US$118), plus a monthly fee of Rp 143,000.

Consumers whose television sets are not compatible with cable transmissions may rent a converter set from the company for Rp 33,000 per month, with a refundable deposit of Rp 500,000.

Kabelvision, the first cable television company in the country, aims to have 85,000 subscribers in Jakarta by the end of the year. There are currently 60,000 homes and resorts subscribed to the service outside Jakarta. (04)
