Cable thief arrested

BANDUNG, West Java: Citizens caught a man stealing underground power cables which had not been used and impounded a truck used to carry the loot last week, police said.

Chief of the Bandung police precinct Lt. Col. Maman Suparman said the villagers of Padalarang turned the suspect in to the authorities.

The police are hunting three of the gang members who managed to escape, Antara reported.

The alleged thieves were caught when they were digging out the cables fixed by the state-run electricity company a few days earlier. (pan)
