Cable Prices Surge as US Dollar Strengthens: Its Impact on Electronics Prices

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Electronics traders in Glodok, Central Jakarta, attribute the rise in cable prices to the Middle East conflict. However, the impact of the cable price increase has not yet affected the prices of several electronics items.

Based on observations by CNBC Indonesia in the Glodok area, West Jakarta, on Thursday (23/4/2026), the majority of traders stated that there has been no price increase effect from the rising cable prices. One of them, Hendrik, said that electronics items such as refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners have not experienced increases due to cable prices. Even the effect of the weakening rupiah has not been strongly felt.

“Not yet, electronics prices have not risen because of cable prices. If due to the weakening rupiah, it’s not yet either,” said Hendrik when met by CNBC Indonesia on Thursday (23/4/2026).

Currently, prices at his shop are still relatively stable despite the rise in cable prices and the weakening rupiah.

“Well, it’s not really felt yet, the calculations are still normal,” he explained.

The electronics prices range from Rp3.1 million to Rp10 million. Meanwhile, Cintia, a branded electronics trader for Electrolux, admitted that electronics prices have risen since the beginning of 2026, with an increase of 5%. However, the rise is not due to more expensive cable prices.

“If you say prices have risen, actually they have here, yes, at the beginning of 2026, the increase is about 5%, but we sometimes give a 20% discount,” said Cintia.

However, she admitted that the weakening rupiah is starting to be felt by electronics traders.

“But if the rupiah weakens, we start to get headaches, but here it’s still relatively stable,” she explained.

The prices range from Rp2 million for a two-tub washing machine to Rp14 million for an air conditioner. Meanwhile, Kusuma, a speaker trader, stated that there has been no price increase for speakers due to rising cable prices and the weakening rupiah.

“There has been no price increase yet, speaker prices are still the same, including microphone prices which have not risen,” said Kusuma.

The speaker prices at his shop range from Rp600,000 for small Bluetooth speakers to Rp2.3 million for large portable speakers.
