Cable Prices Quietly Surge, Glodok Traders Raise Alarm
Cable prices have quietly experienced a significant rise. This is due to the effects of global copper prices increasing and the rise in plastic raw material costs.
Based on observations by CNBC Indonesia in the Glodok electronics hub, West Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon (23/4/2026), the cable price increases vary depending on the type of cable and its length. However, on average, the rise can reach 15%, ranging from Rp3,000 to Rp10,000.
Kurnia, one of the cable traders in the Glodok Jaya shophouse area, revealed that the cable price increase began in the last few days.
“Yes, there has been a price increase for cables; the rises vary depending on the type and length—mostly up to Rp3,000 to Rp5,000,” said Kurnia when met by CNBC Indonesia.
He gave an example of NYM 2x1.5 cable, now priced at Rp21,000 per metre, previously Rp18,000 per metre. Next, NYM 2x2.5 cable now reaches Rp28,000 per metre, from previously Rp25,000 per metre.
“Even this NYM one was Rp18,000 per metre before, now it’s already Rp21,000 per metre, and some have even reached Rp30,000 per metre,” he continued.
In agreement with Kurnia, another cable trader, Hans, admitted that cable prices have also risen recently.
“That’s right, the prices have started to rise; it’s not just rising anymore, but changing prices,” said Hans.
The cable price increases in his shop also vary. However, on average, the rise reaches Rp5,000, even Rp10,000.
“As for how much the increase is, it varies, depending on the type and length; some rise by only Rp3,000, some by Rp5,000,” added Hans.
However, Mei Mei, another cable trader, stated that cable prices in her shop are still relatively stable. But she heard that other traders have started raising prices.
“Regarding the price rise, not yet in our shop; still stable. This NYM 2x0.75 cable for 2 metres is still Rp20,000, but there is information about increases,” said Mei Mei.
She complained that if cable prices become more expensive, it will be harder for her to sell cables.
“Yes, if possible, don’t rise; we’ll be more squeezed later. If possible, just let doomsday come,” she said.
Not only installation electrical cables, but LAN cables are also starting to experience increases, as revealed by Eliza, a cable trader at Harco Glodok.
“LAN cables have also started to rise; it varies, but the increases are from Rp3,000 to Rp5,000,” said Eliza.
For example, Belden UTP CAT 6 LAN cable, where the current price reaches Rp10,000 per metre, from previously around Rp7,000.
