Cable plant constructed
JAKARTA (JP): PT Catur Yasa, a privately owned construction firm, and Sapura Holding of Malaysia will build a $500 million cable plant in Medan, North Sumatra, to support its plan to install 500,000 telephone lines in Sumatra.
Catur Yasa's president, Kusumo Martoredjo, was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia as saying that the construction of the plant will be finished in the next 10 months. He declined to elaborate on the plant's production capacity.
In 1991, Catur Yasa, which is partially controlled by relatives of the State Minister of National Development Planning Ginandjar Kartasasminta, won the tender for the installation of 100,000 telephone lines in Sumatra. (hdj)
