Cable Management Urged to Be Synchronised to Prevent Repeated Roadworks

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) member Yuke Yurike has urged that the city’s utility cable management works be carried out simultaneously with other infrastructure projects to prevent traffic congestion caused by repeated road excavations.

According to Yuke, cable management works should ideally be executed alongside projects by the regional public water company Perumda PAM Jaya, pavement construction, drainage works, and other infrastructure located in the same area.

“We want this work to be done together with PAM projects, pavements, drainage, and other infrastructure. So there is no repeated digging and reinstating. In the past, just a few kilometres of work caused extraordinary congestion,” she said in Jakarta on Thursday.

She assessed that cross-coordination between regional apparatus organisations (OPD) needs to be strengthened so that various construction works can be undertaken simultaneously. By doing so, the impact on public mobility can be minimised while improving the efficiency of project execution.

“That is why we are asking for integration among OPDs. If there is work in the same location, coordinate so it can be done at once,” she said.

She also expressed hope that synergy between agencies in implementing infrastructure projects could reduce traffic disruption while accelerating the completion of works at various points across Jakarta.

Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that he had signed a regional regulation on cable management in the capital. Pramono explained that previously cables could not be placed underground due to the absence of a legal framework. However, with the regulation now in place, Pramono hopes the issue of messy cables in the capital can be properly addressed.
