Cabinet Secretary Teddy Responds to Saiful Mujani's Call for Prabowo to Step Down

The statement by Saiful Mujani, founder of Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC), calling for efforts to “overthrow” President Prabowo Subianto has garnered widespread attention. The call was made at a Halal Bihalal forum titled “Before Analysts Are Disciplined,” held in the Utan Kayu area of East Jakarta on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

In his remarks, Saiful assessed that Prabowo’s leadership does not demonstrate presidential conduct despite having been in office for more than a year. He also highlighted the government’s perceived closed stance towards public criticism, as well as pressure on analysts.

In response to the controversy, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya opted for a brief reply. He admitted to not having followed Saiful Mujani’s statement directly.

“Wow, I still have a lot of work. I haven’t seen what he said. Something like that,” Teddy stated at the State Palace on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

Teddy added that the government is currently focused on larger and more strategic agendas. He stressed that the President’s attention is not diverted by the controversy.

“Especially the President, the President is handling big matters, focusing on more strategic things,” he said.

This statement serves as the government’s response to the growing criticisms, including assessments of the current administration’s performance and direction.
