Cabinet Secretary Teddy Responds to Discourse on Ministers' Salary Cuts
Jakarta - Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Lieutenant Colonel TNI Teddy Indra Wijaya has responded to the plan announced by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to cut the salaries of ministers in the Merah Putih Cabinet.
Teddy instead asked the media to inquire with the party that raised the issue.
“Ask the one who mentioned it yesterday, who was that?” said Teddy when met at the Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4/2026).
What is certain, according to Teddy, is that there has been no decision yet regarding the ministers’ salary cuts.
“Ask the one who mentioned it yesterday. So, the point is that those concepts will be discussed in meetings over the next few days. We’ll see then; there has been no decision whatsoever,” he added.
Quoted from Kompas TV, Finance Minister (Menkeu) Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the government is still studying the discourse on cutting the salaries of state officials amid efforts to maintain budget efficiency.
Purbaya said the discourse on salary cuts for officials, including ministers, is still at the discussion stage and there is no final decision.
According to him, readiness to implement the salary cut policy will be applied by awaiting official directives from President Prabowo Subianto.
“If it’s the DPR, I don’t know; if it’s the ministers, I’m fine with it. We’ll see what the President’s policy is like,” said Purbaya at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta on Monday (7/4/2026).
“I’m fine with it; after all, they have plenty of money,” he remarked.
Although there is no final decision yet, Purbaya estimated that the salary cut could reach around 25 per cent.
However, that figure is still his personal assumption.
When asked if the salary cut is certain, Purbaya said there have already been discussions on the matter, but the final decision is still not definite.
