Cabinet Secretary Teddy Receives Visit from Indian Ambassador
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya received a visit from the Indian Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia, Shri Sandeep Chakravorty. Sandeep visited the Cabinet Secretariat office in Jakarta on Tuesday, 16 June 2026.
According to the Cabinet Secretariat, Ambassador Sandeep requested time to convey several matters regarding the development of Indonesia-India cooperation. “The nation, with a population exceeding 1.4 billion, has approximately more as than 150,000 diaspora living in Indonesia,” the statement noted.
Sandeep and Teddy also discussed the planned visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Indonesia. Modi is scheduled to travel to Jakarta for a state visit in the middle of this year.
“The visit is expected to become an important milestone in strengthening the Indonesia–India strategic partnership, which has existed for 76 years, and to open opportunities for closer cooperation in various fields,” the Cabinet Secretariat stated.
President Prabowo Subianto previously visited the Republic of India in January 2025. Prabowo travelled to New Delhi to attend as the chief guest for the 76th Republic Day celebrations.
During that visit, Prabowo also held a bilateral meeting with PM Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House, New Delhi. In his press statement following the meeting, President Prabowo emphasised the importance of accelerating economic cooperation with India.
The President also instructed his officials to simplify bureaucracy, reduce excessive regulation, and place bilateral interests at the forefront. “If necessary, we will prioritise this relationship for the sake of the long-term strategic partnership that we highly uphold,” said Prabowo.
Furthermore, both leaders agreed to strengthen partnerships in various sectors, including trade, investment, tourism, energy, digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and infrastructure. Prabowo also invited the Indian private sector to invest in infrastructure development in Indonesia.
