Cabinet Secretary Teddy Receives Visit from Indian Ambassador

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya received a visit from India’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Shri Sandeep Chakravorty, at the Cabinet Secretariat office in Jakarta on Tuesday, 16 June 2026. According to a statement from the Cabinet Secretariat, Ambassador Sandeep requested the meeting to convey several matters regarding the development of Indonesia-India cooperation. The nation, with a population exceeding 1.4 billion, has more than 150,000 diaspora members residing in Indonesia. Teddy and Sandeep also discussed plans for a visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Indonesia. Modi is scheduled to travel to Jakarta for a state visit in the middle of this year. The visit is expected to become an important milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership between Indonesia and India, which has been established for 76 years, as well as opening opportunities for closer cooperation in various fields. The moment of the meeting between Teddy and the Indian Ambassador was also shared via the Instagram account @catatanseskab. In the post, Teddy appeared wearing a short-sleeved blue batik shirt, while Sandeep wore a long-sleeved brown batik shirt and was accompanied by a staff member. President Prabowo Subianto previously visited the Republic of India in January 2025. Prabowo travelled to New Delhi to fulfil an invitation as the chief guest at the 76th Republic Day celebrations. During that visit, Prabowo also held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. In a press statement following the meeting, President Prabowo emphasised the importance of accelerating economic cooperation with India. The President also instructed his staff to simplify bureaucracy, reduce excessive regulations, and place bilateral interests at the forefront. ‘If necessary, we will prioritise this relationship for the sake of a long-term strategic partnership that we highly value,’ Prabowo stated. Additionally, the two leaders agreed to strengthen partnerships in various sectors, including trade, investment, tourism, energy, digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and infrastructure. Prabowo also invited the Indian private sector to invest in infrastructure development in Indonesia.
