Cabinet Secretary Teddy: President Prabowo Opens the Palace Doors Wide for Schoolchildren

President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has thrown open the doors of the Presidential Palace to schoolchildren as part of efforts to build Indonesia’s younger generation. The “Palace for Schoolchildren” programme was launched at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that the policy forms part of the government’s commitment to strengthening human resource quality, which is also reflected in various priority programmes such as nutritious meals, school renovations, the provision of educational facilities, and improvements to teacher welfare.

“One of the President’s largest programmes is investing in building and shaping the younger generation. There are nutritious meals, school renovations, toilets, we install digital learning TVs. Then there are people’s schools, integrated schools, Garuda schools, incentives and welfare for teachers, and so on. Today we open the palace to schoolchildren for the nation’s future generations,” said Teddy.

In the “Palace for School Students” activity, pupils are invited to participate in discussions and Q&A sessions, as well as tours of the palace to learn about the nation’s history and government system. The students are also introduced to various important rooms in the palace, including places where strategic national decisions are made.

“We invite them to see the palace, we invite them to see the places where major decisions for this nation have been made. Why? To give them the desire to aspire as high as possible for this nation,” he stated.

Furthermore, Teddy emphasised that the programme will not only be implemented at Merdeka Palace and State Palace, but will also be expanded to all Presidential Palaces in various regions of Indonesia. Schools from various areas, including outside Java Island, will be facilitated to participate in the activity.

“We have eight, later each palace will also be opened to schoolchildren. For those outside Jakarta or even outside Java Island, they will be facilitated to come here,” he clarified.

Teddy also encouraged schools interested in joining the “Palace for School Students” programme to register with the Ministry of State Secretariat or the Cabinet Secretariat. Registrants will then be scheduled for palace visits.
