Cabinet Secretary Teddy: President Prabowo Calls for Peace Dialogue to Maintain Southeast Asian Stability
Cebu, VIVA – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto attended the Retreat session of the 48th ASEAN Summit held at Shangri-La Mactan, Cebu, Philippines, on Friday, 8 May 2026. The meeting served as a strategic forum for Southeast Asian leaders to discuss evolving global and regional dynamics.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that during the session, Prabowo, alongside other ASEAN leaders, reinforced their collective commitment to maintaining stability, peace, and economic growth in Southeast Asia amidst global uncertainties.
“In a warm and spirited atmosphere of camaraderie, President Prabowo and the ASEAN leaders discussed various global challenges directly impacting the region, while strengthening their commitment to upholding stability, peace, and economic growth in Southeast Asia,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy in his statement, quoted on Saturday, 9 May 2026.
On that occasion, President Prabowo invited all ASEAN countries to continue prioritising dialogue and peaceful resolutions in addressing various regional issues. The Head of State assessed that constructive communication and a spirit of brotherhood are the primary keys to maintaining regional harmony.

Furthermore, Cabinet Secretary Teddy explained that President Prabowo emphasised the importance of promoting peaceful negotiation processes on several regional issues, including the situation between Thailand and Cambodia, as well as developments in Myanmar. According to the President, regional stability and peace must be continuously maintained through approaches of dialogue and cooperation.
“President Prabowo emphasised the importance of a spirit of brotherhood and constructive communication, including promoting peaceful negotiations between Thailand and Cambodia, and the situation in Myanmar to maintain stability and harmony in Southeast Asia,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy also noted that President Prabowo’s presence at the 48th ASEAN Summit once again underscores Indonesia’s active commitment to strengthening ASEAN unity and solidarity. Indonesia continues to push for ASEAN to remain an anchor of peace, stability, and global growth amid increasingly complex global challenges.
