Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Cabinet Secretary, Teddy Indra Wijaya, stated that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is carrying three primary messages for Indonesia at the 2026 BRICS Summit: national independence, the unity of the Global South, and the strengthening of BRICS cooperation.

“The strength of a nation begins with its ability to meet the basic needs of its people: food, energy, and education. With a strong foundation, Indonesia will not be dependent on or easily dictated by certain powers,” Teddy said in a written statement released in Jakarta on Monday.

Teddy noted that these three messages were emphasised by President Prabowo during a closed session of the 2026 BRICS Summit titled “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” on Saturday (12/9).

According to Teddy, the President’s first message focuses on the importance of national independence and resilience, starting with the state’s ability to meet the fundamental needs of its citizens. Food, energy, and educational security, he added, are not only related to domestic needs but also serve as Indonesia’s capital to independently determine its development direction and national interests.

The second message from President Prabowo is to strengthen the unity of the Global South. The Head of State reminded the importance of togetherness in facing various global challenges, quoting an Indonesian proverb.

“Quoting the proverb ‘United we stand, divided we fall’, the President reminded us of the importance of the spirit of the Asia-Africa Conference. The Global South nations now stand as equals to fight for their own interests and their future,” Teddy stated.

Teddy remarked that the spirit of the Asia-Africa Conference remains relevant as developing nations hold an increasingly important position in the world economy and geopolitics.

The third message from President Prabowo highlights the immense power of BRICS, which represents half of the world’s population. This potential, according to the President, needs to be translated into concrete collaboration that benefits developing nations.

“BRICS represents half of the world’s population. This strength must be transformed into real cooperation: strengthening food and energy security, connecting markets, capital, technology, resources, and knowledge, as well as opening greater development opportunities for developing countries,” Teddy said.

In addition to these three messages, President Prabowo encouraged the creation of a fairer and more inclusive global governance, while maintaining the United Nations (UN) as the centre of the world’s multilateral system.

“The UN must remain the centre of the multilateral system, but it needs to be strengthened to be more representative, responsive, and capable of delivering concrete results for the global community,” Teddy continued.

Teddy emphasised that through its membership in BRICS, Indonesia continues to actively promote a more just, equal, and peaceful world order for all nations.
