Jakarta – Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya received a visit from Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait at the Cabinet Secretariat building in Jakarta on Sunday to discuss the target of renovating 400,000 uninhabitable homes by 2026. The government is targeting the renovation of 400,000 uninhabitable houses in 2026, a significant increase compared to the 2025 target of 45,000 units, according to a post on the Cabinet Secretariat’s official Instagram account. The meeting focused on accelerating the implementation of the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme, also known as the home renovation programme. This programme is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priorities to improve the quality of housing for the public. In addition to discussing the progress of the programme, the meeting emphasised the importance of strengthening coordination and synergy between ministries, agencies, and regional governments. This is intended to ensure that the implementation of the BSPS programme proceeds more quickly, is well-targeted, effective, and provides tangible benefits to the community. Through stronger collaboration, the government hopes to accelerate the provision of decent housing while improving the quality of life for people in various regions. Previously, Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian urged regional governments to accelerate the implementation of the BSPS programme to achieve the target of 400,000 renovated homes in 2026. The Home Affairs Minister explained that data on prospective BSPS recipients is already available. However, some of the data still needs to be verified as it does not yet meet the criteria, and there is also newly submitted data from the regions. He also noted that several regional governments have yet to give special attention to accelerating the programme’s implementation. Therefore, he asked regional governments to ensure that every proposal has been carefully verified in the field to meet the established requirements. Furthermore, Tito requested that regional governments take concrete steps to accelerate the achievement of the 400,000-unit target by ensuring all prospective recipients meet the requirements set by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas. To support the acceleration of data collection and verification, he also asked regional governments to strengthen collaboration with the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in their respective regencies and cities.
