Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya inspected the people’s train service ahead of the 2026 Eid homecoming exodus. This step was taken to ensure public transportation becomes increasingly comfortable, high-quality, and affordable for the public.

During his visit to Senen Station in Jakarta on Tuesday (17/3/2026), Teddy emphasised that this inspection is a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s instructions, which focus on improving the national railway sector.

“I was invited to check all railway facilities. So, in line with the President’s directives, he is focused on improving train services. This is what we are checking,” said Teddy.

Teddy highlighted improvements in the quality of people’s train services, both in terms of fares and facilities. He noted that the ticket price for the Jakarta-Yogyakarta route, previously ranging from Rp225,000 to Rp250,000, has now dropped to around Rp135,000 to Rp175,000.

Not only more pocket-friendly, the quality of people’s train facilities has also improved. Teddy pointed out the optimally functioning air conditioning, cleaner toilet conditions, and a more comfortable seat design.

“So the price has decreased, and the facilities have improved. Earlier, the AC was on, the toilet was good, and the seats are not facing each other. It’s comfortable for a six-hour trip to Yogyakarta,” he said.

He added that the people’s train programme will continue to be developed gradually, including improvements to carriage quality and expansion of services to various regions outside Java Island.

President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Boddy Rasyidin, stated that the people’s train is designed to provide comfort equivalent to higher classes at an affordable price.

“The comfort is actually on par with executive class, but at a more affordable price. Because trains are mass transportation, which means the cost must also be affordable,” said Bobby.

Currently, KAI has prepared five sets of renovated people’s trains. Each set has 93 seats. On the latest departure, four sets were operated with a total capacity of 372 passengers. Bobby said the occupancy rate even exceeded 100 percent, indicating high public interest in the service.
