Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya's Popularity Soars Due to Public Engagement

Political analyst Hendri Satrio has assessed that the popularity of Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya is skyrocketing, driven not just by social media buzz but also by strong recognition during face-to-face encounters. Satrio, familiarly known as Hensa, expressed surprise at the phenomenon, noting that Teddy’s official position does not typically generate such widespread popularity. “I am amazed by this person; he is popular on social media, but even more so on the ground. Whether in big cities or remote areas, people know and like him,” Hensa told reporters on Thursday.

The founder of the KedaiKOPI Survey Institute emphasised that this level of popularity usually stems from a clear political machine or executive role. He observed that Teddy’s public acceptance appears rooted in a personal connection with the community, rather than mere campaign effects or media coverage. “He is not a regional head, not a minister with a programme, not a politician, not the child of an official, and he has no party. Yet he is this popular. It must be because of his performance,” Hensa stated.

Hensa further noted that Teddy’s lack of formal political affiliation has not hindered his appeal. He pointed to a subtle but effective approach, highlighting Teddy’s consistent presence in community spaces, his attentiveness to public issues, and his ability to explain technical matters in easily understandable language. This combination, Hensa argued, proves more effective than bureaucratic rhetoric detached from daily realities. “Recently, he accompanied President Prabowo at an event with Nahdlatul Ulama in Madura, East Java, and then appeared before around one hundred thousand farmers and fishermen in Gorontalo. In both places, the crowd erupted just at the mention of his name. That is the importance of visible and tangible performance, not just campaign promises,” he concluded. Hensa believes Teddy’s repeated appearances are not mere formalities, but demonstrate a willingness to listen and provide genuine attention, enabling rapid acceptance across various social strata without the need for a political machine.
