Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya received a visit from the Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid at the Cabinet Secretariat office in Jakarta on Friday (27/3) evening, to discuss the implementation of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas). The meeting discussed the implementation of the Government Regulation on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas), as stated in an official release from the Cabinet Secretariat via its Instagram account. During the meeting at the Cabinet Secretariat office, the Minister reported that several digital platforms have begun to demonstrate compliance with the regulation aimed at protecting children in cyberspace. The implementation of this regulation officially enforces a minimum age limit of 16 years for children to access high-risk digital platforms starting from 28 March 2026. The government has instructed all digital platforms operating in Indonesia to immediately align their products, features, and services in accordance with the applicable regulations, Meutya emphasised at the Ministry of Comdigi office in Central Jakarta on the same day. Meutya stressed that every business entity operating within Indonesia’s legal jurisdiction must comply with local regulations without exception, particularly regarding the safety of underage users. On the other hand, four other global platforms—Facebook, Threads, Instagram, and YouTube—have been reported as still not meeting the required standards in the regulation. We ask platforms to fully uphold the principle of the child, namely universality and non-discrimination. So there should be no differentiation that child protection rules in one country are followed, but not in others, Meutya said. The government has also prepared firm steps through Minister of Comdigi Regulation Number 9 of 2026, which includes administrative sanctions such as warning letters, temporary access suspension, and permanent access termination for defiant platforms.
