Cabinet Secretary Teddy Affirms President Prabowo's Support for National Internship Programme
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya has affirmed President Prabowo Subianto’s full support for the National Internship Programme, as evidenced by the increased quota of beneficiaries.
“Of course, this programme is fully supported by the President. He also gives it his full appreciation. The proof is that last year the quota was 100,000 participants, and now 150,000 have been accepted,” Teddy said during a press conference following the kick-off event at the Ministry of Manpower office in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Teddy also explained that interns are paid by the government in accordance with the district/city minimum wage where the interns work.
For participants undertaking internships in Jakarta, Teddy said they are planned to receive a salary of approximately Rp5.7 million on 10 September 2026.
“The President provides wages or salaries in line with the local minimum wage where they work, which is quite substantial. God willing, on 10 September next month they will directly receive that salary of Rp5.7 million,” Teddy said.
Teddy expressed hope that the benefits of the National Internship Programme will become more widely known to the public so that it can attract more applicants.
He also hopes that after the internship period ends, participants can be recruited by the relevant companies to become employees and work there.
“Last year, almost 40 percent of those who interned went straight into employment. What does that mean? It means the quality of these interns is very good, and the recruitment is good. During their six months of interning, training, and being given skills there, the companies were satisfied with the work of these young people,” Teddy said.
The Ministry of Manpower has designated 46,160 university graduates as participants in the 2026 National Internship Programme Batch 1, Cohort 2. The participants have gone through various stages, including registration, which was joined by 732,483 people.
After registration, prospective National Internship participants went through a process of requirements verification, job application submission, and selection.
“The Ministry of Manpower conducted the selection process through a plenary session and determined that 46,160 people were declared successful and designated as participants of the National Internship Programme Cohort 2, Batch 1 of 2026,” said Darmawansyah, Director General of Vocational Training and Productivity Development at the Ministry of Manpower.
