Cabinet Secretary States Mutual Support is Key to Stability; PDIP Discusses Balancing Role
The PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) party has responded to statements made by Cabinet Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, who urged close coordination among all parties to maintain national economic stability. PDIP Central Executive Board Chairman, Deddy Sitorus, explained his party’s role, describing it as a balancing force within the government.
“From the beginning, we have stated that we consider ourselves a balancing party. This means we fully support the government in executing administration and programmes required by the people and the nation,” Deddy told reporters on Sunday (7/6/2026).
Deddy stated that while his party supports the success of the current administration, they will continue to voice criticisms and provide recommendations to ensure all government policies are implemented effectively. “At the same time, we will also provide notes, criticism, and recommendations for improvements or to address deviations. That is the essence of being a balancing party—to ensure checks and balances exist on one hand, and to provide a channel for the people to convey their aspirations and input on the other,” he said.
Deddy emphasised that PDIP has no intention of allowing the current administration to fail. According to him, PDIP will continue to ensure the government fulfils its mandate in accordance with the constitution and the will of the people. “There has never been a desire from PDI Perjuangan for the government to fail, but we also have a moral, ethical, and ideological obligation to ensure that the management of power and the government aligns with the constitution and the people’s mandate. That is what is truly meant by a balancing party,” he added.
Previously, Cabinet Secretary Prasetyo Hadi emphasised the importance of close coordination among all parties to maintain national economic stability. Prasetyo noted that current economic challenges demand increasingly strong cooperation.
These remarks were made during a press conference following a meeting between the House of Representatives (DPR) and the government at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Saturday (6/6). Prasetyo initially expressed appreciation for the meeting, which was facilitated by the Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa and Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo.
“I believe this is a signal that we indeed hope for: the occurrence of close and intense coordination among all economic stakeholders to ensure that both our monetary and fiscal positions remain where we expect them to be,” he said.
Prasetyo added that current economic challenges necessitate strong cooperation, meaning that policies pursued by the government and economic authorities must be mutually supportive. “In today’s situation, cooperation among all of us is required. Policies must support and strengthen one another, both from the macroeconomic monetary side led by Bank Indonesia and the fiscal side controlled by the Minister of Finance, as the reported indicator figures show that our economic fundamentals are indeed quite strong,” he concluded.
