Cabinet Secretary: President Prabowo to Spend Takbiran Night in North Sumatra, Eid in Aceh

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to spend takbiran night in North Sumatra on Friday evening (20 March), followed by performing Eid al-Fitr prayers in Aceh on Saturday (21 March).

“Yes, that’s correct. The President will spend takbiran night in North Sumatra, and God willing, he will perform Eid al-Fitr prayers in Aceh tomorrow morning,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy to reporters in Jakarta on Friday.

Accordingly, the President is scheduled to depart from TNI AU Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Friday afternoon. Travelling from Jakarta to North Sumatra and Aceh, President Prabowo will be accompanied by several state officials, including Cabinet Secretary Teddy.

The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs has officially determined that Eid al-Fitr, 1 Shawwal 1446 Hijriah, falls on Saturday, 21 March 2026.

“Based on calculations and the absence of the new moon sighting, it has been agreed that 1 Shawwal 1446 Hijriah falls on Saturday, 21 March 2026,” said Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar during a press conference for the Isbat Session for 1 Shawwal 1446 Hijriah at the Ministry of Religious Affairs office in Jakarta on Thursday (19 March).

The Minister explained that the decision was made following the results of the moon sighting conducted by the Ministry’s Hisab Rukyat Team, which indicated that the crescent moon’s height across all regions of Indonesia did not meet the criteria set by the Ministers of Religious Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore (MABIMS).

Nevertheless, Muslims from the Muhammadiyah organisation have already celebrated Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijriah on Friday (20 March).
