Jakarta (ANTARA) — Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said President Prabowo Subianto and United States President Donald Trump signed a trade agreement in Washington DC on Thursday (19 February) local time.

According to him, the trade agreement pertains to a reciprocal trade pact between the two countries.

“Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the swift and sustained steps taken by both nations, and reaffirmed their strong commitment to implementing this major agreement,” Teddy said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Friday.

The agreement is expected to strengthen economic security, drive growth, and make a sustained contribution to global prosperity.

“President Trump and President Prabowo also instructed their respective ministers and officials to take further steps to usher in a new golden age for the United States-Indonesia strategic partnership,” he said.

The agreement between the two nations was announced via the official White House website when President Trump and President Prabowo met on the sidelines of the launch of the Board of Peace in Washington DC on Thursday (19 February) local time.

In a statement entitled “Implementation of the Agreement Toward a New Golden Age for the U.S.-Indonesian Alliance”, the White House said both leaders underscored that the implementation of the agreement would serve as a foundation towards a “new golden age” in the US-Indonesia alliance.

The White House stated that both heads of state were committed to following through on the reciprocal trade pact.
