Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron proceeded warmly and resulted in an agreement to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries. In an official statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday, the Cabinet Secretary conveyed that the meeting between Prabowo and Macron took place at the Élysée Palace in Paris, France, on Tuesday (14/4) as part of President Prabowo’s visit to two countries, namely Russia and France. “The one-on-one meeting between President Prabowo and President Emmanuel Macron lasted more than two hours at the Élysée Palace in Paris,” said the Cabinet Secretary. He highlighted that both countries are two of the five permanent members with veto power in the UN and possess significant strength in the fields of economy and energy resources. Regarding the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary explained that the two leaders discussed strengthening strategic cooperation between Indonesia and France in various priority sectors. The focus of the discussions included developing cooperation in the fields of energy, education, digital communications, and mutually beneficial long-term economic investments. “The meeting discussed enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including energy, education, digital communications, and long-term economic investments,” he stated. The strong personal relationship between President Prabowo and President Macron has become an important foundation in tightening the partnership between the two countries. He mentioned that this closeness has been established since President Prabowo served as Indonesia’s Minister of Defence and has continued to the present day. “The relationship between the two leaders has been closely tied since President Prabowo was still serving as Minister of Defence until now,” he said. The meeting serves as an important milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership between Indonesia and France, while also opening up broader collaboration opportunities amid the evolving dynamics of global geopolitics and economy. Previously, President Prabowo Subianto had arrived back in the homeland via TNI AU Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon, after completing a series of working visits to Russia and France.
