PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), representing the government, officially launched the Kereta Kerakyatan at Pasar Senen Station in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (17/3/2026) afternoon WIB. The new train serves as one of the safe, comfortable, and affordable public transport options for the public during the 2026 Lebaran homecoming period.

“I am fulfilling the invitation from the President Director of Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Mr Bobby Rasyidin, to directly inspect the readiness of the train fleet, particularly the launch of the people’s train, which is a train with lower ticket prices but improved quality and comfort,” said Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya in a press statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3/2026).

Teddy explained that the Kereta Kerakyatan is a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to strengthen transport facilities for the public during the homecoming season. Therefore, PT KAI has renovated the interior of the economy train carriages to enhance passenger comfort.

“This train’s interior was modified by KAI on the President’s directive about three months ago,” explained Teddy, who also flagged off the departure of the Kereta Kerakyatan to Lempuyangan Station in Yogyakarta.

Regarding fares, he stated that the Kereta Kerakyatan remains affordable for the public planning to travel home using this mode of transport. Teddy noted that the ticket prices for the Kereta Kerakyatan are even lower during the Lebaran homecoming period compared to normal prices.

“In terms of ticket prices for the Jakarta-Yogyakarta route, the Kereta Kerakyatan is usually around Rp 250,000, but during this homecoming period, it is sold for Rp 135,000-Rp 175,000. With full AC facilities, clean and good toilets, as well as comfortable seats that do not face each other,” explained Teddy.
