Cabinet Secretary: Five-Hour Meeting Between Prabowo and Putin Yields Energy Sector Agreements
The meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow lasted for five hours. The meeting produced several agreements, including cooperation in the energy sector.
Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that the meeting began with two hours of bilateral discussions, followed by three hours of one-on-one talks between the two leaders. During the meeting, the two countries agreed on several important points for strategic cooperation, particularly in the energy and mineral resources sector, which is a long-term priority for both nations.
“Several points were agreed upon, including long-term cooperation in the ESDM sector, encompassing oil and gas energy resilience and downstreaming,” Teddy said in a written statement on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
In addition to the energy sector, Teddy mentioned that the two countries also reaffirmed their commitment to continue and expand cooperation in various other fields deemed to have a direct impact on national development. The continuation of cooperation spans from research to investments.
“The sustainability of several cooperations in the fields of education, research, and technology, agriculture, and investments in various sectors, especially industrial development in Indonesia,” he stated.
Furthermore, Teddy emphasised that Russia holds a highly strategic position in the global arena, making the partnership with Indonesia increasingly relevant and important.
“We know that Russia’s position is very strategic in the global world, besides being one of the UN veto-holding countries and a BRICS founder,” he said.
According to Teddy, Russia is also one of the world’s major powers with vast natural resource potential, which can serve as an important partner for Indonesia in driving long-term development.
“Russia is one of the world’s major powers that possesses the largest natural resources in the world,” he said.
Teddy explained that this meeting also demonstrates the intensifying bilateral relations between the two leaders over the past year. Prabowo has met Putin five times in the last year on various occasions.
“President Prabowo and President Putin were last recorded meeting in December in Moscow and have met five times on various occasions in the past year,” he added.
