Cabinet Secretary Denies Rumours of Imminent Chaos in Indonesia: It Is a Misguided Narrative, Everything Is Under Control
I want to clarify some issues. There was a question earlier, so some time ago there was a rumour suggesting that Indonesia would soon descend into chaos. First, I apologise for needing to correct this, but it is a misguided narrative. There is no chaos. What exists is that everything is under control,” said Teddy at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Friday (10/4/2026).
Teddy explained the evidence that Indonesia is under control amid the chaos rumours, namely that fuel prices have not increased. Amid several countries raising fuel prices and facing shortages, President Prabowo Subianto has chosen not to raise fuel prices in Indonesia.
“What is the proof? One, amid global conflicts and the impact in the Middle East, the war in the Middle East, many countries are raising fuel prices and facing difficulties with fuel supplies, but President Prabowo has decided not to raise subsidised fuel prices at all. That is a fact. You can see for yourself in neighbouring countries and surrounding nations,” said Teddy.
Another piece of evidence that Indonesia is not heading towards chaos is the optimistic state of the Indonesian economy. Teddy stated that prices of staple goods up to fuel are stable with no significant increases.
“Then the second, economic data truly shows we are heading towards optimism. People’s purchasing power is maintained. And most importantly, this is the most tangible, the Prabowo administration has already conducted two Eid celebrations,” said Teddy.
“And in fact, as proof, in those two instances we experienced together, everything was stable. Prices of staple goods and essential needs were available. Prices were stable, fuel was available, and the homecoming traffic flowed smoothly. That is a fact, data available on the ground. Everything is measurable here. So, the public should not worry,” he added.
