Cabinet Reshuffle Rumours Emerge, Golkar Hopes Its Cadres Are Safe

Jakarta – Golkar Party Secretary-General Muhammad Sarmuji has commented on the rumours of a reshuffle or reorganisation of the Merah Putih Cabinet. Sarmuji stated that a cabinet reshuffle is the prerogative of Prabowo Subianto as President of Indonesia. Golkar, he said, leaves all decisions to Prabowo. This is because, according to Sarmuji, only Prabowo knows best how the ministers in his cabinet are performing. “Yes, we’ve often heard rumours of a reshuffle, but that’s the President’s prerogative. We leave it to the President,” Sarmuji told reporters at the Golkar Party Central Board Office in West Jakarta, quoted on Thursday, 9 April 2026. “Because the President knows best about the cabinet’s composition, his team, how they work, how to strengthen it if there are deficiencies, how to restructure if necessary. We leave it all to the President,” he added. Sarmuji only hopes that none of his party’s cadres will be affected if Prabowo carries out a cabinet reshuffle. “Yes, hopefully not. Hopefully not,” he explained. Previously, it was reported that Minister Secretary of State Prasetyo Hadi spoke about the rumours of a reorganisation or reshuffle of the Merah Putih Cabinet ministers. He emphasised that, up to now, there are no plans for a cabinet reshuffle by President Prabowo Subianto. “Not yet,” Prasetyo told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 8 April 2026. Nevertheless, Prasetyo explained that President Prabowo always evaluates the performance of all Merah Putih Cabinet ministers every day. That evaluation, he said, covers the ministers’ ability to carry out tasks from President Prabowo. “If the question is whether there is an evaluation of the cabinet’s performance, the cabinet lineup, of course. That happens every time, every day, every moment, evaluations occur. The evaluation in the context of whether we as the President’s aides have been able to carry out the tasks from him,” he stated.
