Cabinet Reshuffle: Prabowo Appoints Jumhur Hidayat as Minister of Environment
President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Jumhur Hidayat, the Chairman of the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPSI), as the Minister of Environment (LH). The inauguration was conducted by Prabowo at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday (27/4/2026) based on Presidential Decree Number 51/P of 2026 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of the Merah Putih Cabinet for the 2024-2029 period. The inauguration ceremony began with the singing of the national anthem Indonesia Raya. Subsequently, the presidential decree regarding the inauguration of five officials, including Jumhur, was read out. “I swear by Allah that I will be loyal to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and will implement laws and regulations as straightforwardly as possible, in devotion to the nation and state, that I, in carrying out my duties, will uphold the ethics of the position and work as best as possible with full responsibility,” stated Prabowo, followed by the officials. With this inauguration, Jumhur replaces Hanif Faisol, who has served as Minister of LH since October 2024. In addition to Jumhur, Prabowo also inaugurated Hanif Faisol as Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food, Dudung Abdurachman as Head of the Presidential Staff, M Qodari as Head of the Government Communication Agency, Hasan Nasbi as Special Advisor to the President for Communication, and Abdul Kadir Karding as Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency. This man, born in 1968, is also known to have previously served as Head of the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers from 11 January 2007 to 11 March 2014. In 2021, Jumhur, as an activist and senior figure in the Indonesian People’s Action Coalition (KAMI), was sentenced to 10 months in prison in a case of alleged dissemination of hoax news. Jumhur was elected as Chairman of KSPSI for the 2022-2027 period based on the results of the 10th congress on 16 February 2022.
