Cabbie killed in Priok
JAKARTA (JP): A taxi driver was murdered last night in front of a container warehouse in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.
City Police spokesman Maj. Nyoman Suriasta said local residents found the Rajawali taxi driver, identified as Suhadi, 51, dead in his cab in Jl. R.E. Martadinata.
"Suhadi suffered severe stab wounds to his neck," Nyoman said.
He said police are still searching for the killers.
The victim, who lived on Jl. H. Jiung in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, is survived by a wife and eight children.
Another taxi driver was attacked yesterday in West Jakarta by two men who robbed and threatened to kill him.
West Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. Andi Chaeruddin said the thieves threatened Sutan Hasibuan, 34, with a machete. The pair escaped with Rp 150,000 (US$63.80) and the victim's wristwatch.
The suspects stopped the taxi on Jl. Kali Deres, in West Jakarta and asked the Mercury taxi driver to go to Jl. Lingkar Luar Barat in Rawa Buaya, Chaeruddin said.
He said the thieves are still at large. (jun)
