C. Kalimantan wood-based firms given second warnings

JAKARTA (JP): The provincial administration of Central
Kalimantan has issued second warnings to 16 integrated wood and
forest-based companies who have still to submit their mandatory
operating reports.

The chairman of Central Kalimantan's Regional Investment
Coordinating Board, Abdul Karim, said the board issued first
warnings last November to 35 large companies that had failed to
file their operating reports.

After a month 19 immediately turned in their reports.

He said his office would give the 16 companies one more month
to heed the second warning. If they failed to do so, proceedings
to revoke their operating licenses and investment approvals would
begin.

Investment approvals are issued by the State Minister of
Investment/Chairman of the Investment Coordinating Board.

"Companies that fail to heed the two warnings will be given a
third warning from the office of the State Minister of Investment
before their permits are revoked," Karim was quoted by Antara as
saying in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan.

The third warning is considered the first stage of the license
revocation process.

Karim insisted that the need for companies to report to the
Regional Investment Coordinating Board was stipulated in State
Minister of Investment Decree No. 13/1992 on the monitoring,
supervision and control of foreign and domestic projects.

There are currently 162 companies holding investment approvals
operating in Central Kalimantan, of which 27 are foreign
investments and 135 domestic investments.

From the 162 companies, Karim said, 10 are not operating and
seven others have no clear addresses.

"The operating approvals of these seven are likely to be
revoked," he said.

The seven domestic investment-firms are PT Sumber Asia, PT
Djaja Gada Mas, PT Gerna Utama, PT Djaja Sampurna, PT Talawang,
PT Mota Indah and PT Gema Kota Besi.

Meanwhile, the 10 inactive companies are PT Katingan Timber
Company and PT Rimba Delta -- both of which are foreign
investment firms -- and PT Kimax Ismail, PT Bumi Bahaur Permai,
PT Sri Ratanesia Parama, PT Bania Raya Indah Wood Industri, PT
Dadahup Utama, PT Maboli Raya, CV Tuah Berdoa and CV Sara Mahkota
Inti Mining, all domestic investment companies. (pwn)
