C. Java wrestlers eye golds at PON

SEMARANG (JP): Central Java wrestlers are eying two golds in the 15th National Games (PON) in Surabaya, coach Rubiyanto Hadi said on Saturday.

The golds are expected to be won by free-style wrestlers Ngabdi M. (63 kgs) and Sukahar (67 kgs). Haryanto (85 kgs) has a chance to also earn the gold in the Greco-Roman style.

"They might face tough challenge from wrestlers from East Kalimantan, Jakarta, West Java and East Java. We are keeping our eye on the athletes' development, so we can measure our skills," he said.

Rubiyanto said Ngabdi had to fight hard against two wrestlers -- Budi (West Kalimantan) and Hendrik (Jakarta) -- while Sukahar might confront the gold medalist of the prequalifying round for PON, Didi Supardi of the host city.

He said Central Java would also send Sunoto (69 kgs), Sukahara (76 kgs), Eko Mardiyanto (85 kgs) and Joko Martono (130 kgs) in the freestyle event, and Mulyadi (58 kgs) in the Greco-Roman style event. (har)
