C. Java wins junior swimming tourney
JAKARTA (JP): Central Java, which collected 26 golds, 14 silvers and 30 bronzes, prevailed in the national junior championship at the Senayan stadium here which ended yesterday evening.
Host Jakarta came out as the event's runners-up by collecting 22 golds, 21 silvers and 33 bronzes.
Defending champion East Jakarta, in the meantime, sank to third place with 19 golds, 22 silvers and 14 bronzes.
The championship, which was participated in by 20 provinces, failed to produce any new swimming records.
Antara reported that this was mainly due to the national school examinations two months ago which cut short all training sessions.
Central Java dominated the tourney until the very end as shown by its 10-year-old ace Audy Oktavian who dominated the contests yesterday evening.
Audy, who collected six golds, was elected as this year's best swimmer for the below-10 age group. (hdj)
