C. Java shuttlers for world meet

SEMARANG (JP): The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) has selected five young Central Java shuttlers to join the national training center for the World Badminton Junior Championships in Beijing in November.

Aji Basuki and Prasetyo in the boy's division and Dian Novita, Maria Elvira, Firbaya and Firda in the girl's category are among 34 players across the country called up for the intensive stint at PBSI's training center in Cipayung, East Jakarta.

"The six players won the call-up due to their impressive performance in several tournaments recently. They have accepted the offer and hope to form the backbone of the national team," chief of Central Java sports governing body Djoko Sutandoko said here on Tuesday.

He said the players would be looked after at the badminton training center in Jakarta after the world championships. The provincial badminton body and PBSI would share the accommodation fees and other daily expenses of the players during their stay in Jakarta, Djoko added. (har)
