C. Java residents iodine deficient

SEMARANG, Central Java: One in six people in Central Java suffer from a lack of iodine.

It is estimated that some five million of 30 million people in the province are suffering from symptoms of iodine deficiency.

Dr. Eko from Dr. Kariadi Hospital in Semarang said some six million lipiodol capsules were needed to overcome the situation.

As reported by Antara, he stressed the importance of the consumption of a iodine supplement by pregnant mothers, warning that children could grow up abnormally and that the deficiency could stunt growth. (mds)
