C. Jakarta police gets new chief
JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata yesterday installed Lt. Col. R. Abubakar Nataprawira as the Central Jakarta Police Chief, replacing Lt. Col. S.Y. Wenas who will be promoted to be the chief of the East Timor Police.
Hamami told Abubakar to develop new ways to solve crime as Central Jakarta has, proportionally, very high crime figures.
"The new chief has a heavy task to reduce the crime rate," he said in the installation ceremony at a public soccer stadium in Rawasari, East Jakarta.
He added that the new chief should also become aware of the political situation in the run-up to next-year's general election.
Meanwhile, the city police spokesman Iman Haryatna said yesterday that some chiefs of the police precincts in the city will also be replaced.
Iman said Lt. Col. Mochammad Ibrahim, a former chief of the Lido Bogor Police school, will be installed as North Jakarta Police Chief on May 6, replacing Abubakar.
He said also that Lt. Col. Andi Ibrahim, a former chief of Buleleng Police Precinct, will be installed on May 8 as West Jakarta Police Chief, replacing Harry Pribadi.
"Harry will be moved to a position in the North Sumatra Police precinct," he added.
Lt. Col Alex Bambang, a former chief detective of the Surabaya Police force, will be installed as Bekasi Police Chief on May 11, replacing Lt. Col. Elfrizo Tobing who will become the East Surabaya Police chief. (jun)
