Bylaw on waste dumping endorsed

TANGERANG: The Tangerang municipal council has endorsed a new bylaw that requires factories, hotels and restaurants to obtain a permit before disposing liquid waste.

"We will inform businesspeople of the new bylaw from Dec. 16 onwards," M. Harun, environmental impact control chief at the Tangerang environment office, said on Wednesday.

He said there were 250 firms that produced liquid waste operating across the municipality.

The bylaw also requires businesses to install waste treatment facilities and to obtain a ground water usage permit, as well as undergo an environmental assessment, before applying for the waste dumping permit from the Tangerang Capital Investment and Permit Office. -- JP
