JAKARTA - One of the fears for electric vehicle (EV) owners is the high cost of replacing battery components after accident-related damage. However, surprising news has come from a Denza Z9 GT owner—the premium sub-brand of BYD.

According to CarNewsChina on Sunday (24 May 2026), a Denza Z9 GT owner shared their experience on social media platform Weibo after an incident involving their vehicle.

The car’s undercarriage was damaged, directly affecting the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery 2.0 component.

It should be noted that the figure cited is the price of the battery unit alone from Denza’s official dealer, excluding labour costs and consumables.

The Denza Z9 GT is a Grand Tourer (GT)-style electric vehicle that recently received a refresh. In the Chinese market, it is priced between 269,800 yuan and 369,800 yuan (approximately Rp604 million to Rp827 million), available in both PHEV and pure EV variants.

The top variant claims a driving range of up to 1,036 km. Additionally, it supports BYD’s Flash Charging feature, which can charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes.

Calculating the battery cost at Rp176 million, the price per kWh for the Denza Z9 GT’s battery is approximately 642 yuan (Rp1.4 million) per kWh.

This means the battery accounts for only around 21% of the total vehicle price—a remarkably low figure for a premium EV.

According to China EV Datatracker data, BYD currently ranks second after CATL in electric vehicle battery installations. Its massive production scale allows BYD to significantly reduce battery production costs for its own vehicle lines.

In response to the post, a Denza N7 owner shared their experience. According to an official dealer invoice, replacing the 91 kWh battery in a Denza N7 costs 84,290 yuan (approximately Rp188 million). Fortunately, the replacement was fully covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

For comparison, the Denza N7 is a mid-size electric SUV priced between 259,800 yuan and 289,800 yuan (Rp581 million to Rp648 million), meaning the battery accounts for up to 29% of the total vehicle price.
