BYD's First Hybrid Car Price in Indonesia Circulates; Here’s a Price Hint
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Speculation over the price of BYD’s latest plug-in hybrid car (PHEV), the M6 DM, has circulated. Based on information obtained by CNBC Indonesia, the electrified MPV is said to be sold from IDR 310 million to IDR 390 million, divided into 5 variants.
However Luther T. Panjaitan, Head of Marketing PR & Government Relation at PT BYD Motor Indonesia, said that the price range has not yet been announced as official price.
‘So officially BYD Indonesia has not communicated to the public the price of the BYD M6 DM,’ Luther said during the BYD Tech Culture Fest at GBK area, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (20 May 2026) night.
He claims many potential customers approached dealers to seek price certainty and even placed early orders. The high market enthusiasm prompted BYD to provide a provisional price to the dealer network to give potential customers a reference before placing an order.
‘Therefore we coordinated internally with the sales network to issue an indication price, or estimated price. Thus providing information that is sufficiently relevant to customers to place an order,’ he said.
According to Luther, the estimated price list was then leaked and spread widely on social media. However he refused to confirm whether the numbers will match the final price when officially launched later.
‘What is unfortunate is that the indication price was made public. But we did not say yes and we did not say no to that information. But it is not the official price that BYD will issue officially,’ he said.
‘It is only an indication price that we conveyed to the sales network as a reference,’ he added.
Although not officially announced, BYD signalled that the final price of the M6 DM would not be far from the numbers already circulating in the public. The company hopes this will give potential customers more confidence to place orders early.
‘This means the indication price should not be much higher or perhaps lower. Hopefully customers will be more confident to decide. Because this concerns a need that wants immediate clarification. So they would book early,’ he said.
The BYD M6 DM itself is BYD’s first PHEV model introduced in Indonesia. The car debuted on 18 May 2026, featuring the Dual Mode technology that combines a petrol engine and an electric motor.
In terms of specifications, the M6 DM is equipped with a 1,500 cc engine rated at 72 kW with 125 Nm of torque, paired with Electric Hybrid System (EHS) 5.0. The system is claimed to deliver fuel efficiency of up to 65 kilometres per litre with a combined range claimed to exceed 1,800 kilometres.
For pure electric operation, the vehicle is claimed to travel up to 300 kilometres. Its drive system has three modes: EV, HEV Series, and HEV Parallel, designed to adapt to daily driving conditions up to high-speed acceleration.
