BYD unveils flagship electric SUV Great Tang
Jakarta (ANTARA) - With its official debut today, BYD has shown the first images of its latest flagship electric SUV named Great Tang. Electrek reported on Wednesday local time that Great Tang is set to make its official debut at a BYD technology event on 5 March 2026, alongside the launch of several new flagship vehicles, the latest battery technology, megawatt ultra-fast charging system, smart cockpit software, and other features. As the first D-segment flagship SUV under the Dynasty line, the Great Tang is positioned as the largest and most luxurious model in BYD’s SUV range. Although BYD has not released full official information yet, the Great Tang has appeared in regulatory registration documents indicating some initial details. The SUV measures 5,263 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,790 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm. These dimensions are comparable to or slightly larger than other premium SUVs such as the BMW iX, Kia EV9, and Hyundai IONIQ 9. Powertrain configurations include single-motor and dual-motor variants. The single-motor version will be available with outputs of 300 kW (402 hp) or 370 kW (496 hp), while the dual-motor version delivers a total of 585 kW (784 hp). BYD also unveiled the interior of the Great Tang, offering a seven-seat layout with a 2+2+3 configuration. The cabin is designed to be spacious with three large screens on the dashboard, rear-seat entertainment for passengers, a small fridge, and reclining captain’s chairs. Official pricing will be announced closer to launch, but the Great Tang is expected to be priced above 400,000 yuan (about $58,000 USD) or around Rp980 million as a flagship model. According to another report, the Great Tang is built on BYD’s Super e-Platform 1000V designed to support ultra-fast charging technology up to 1000 kW, and is expected to have a CLTC range of up to 950 km for the RWD version and around 850 km for the AWD version.
