BYD unveils Blade Battery 2.0 with ultra-fast charging

The Chinese electric-vehicle manufacturer BYD has officially unveiled the Blade Battery generation two (Blade Battery 2.0), which offers ultra-fast charging performance. According to Carnewschina on Thursday local time, the latest battery technology can recharge from 10% to 70% in five minutes, and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. The rapid charging capability remains even in extreme temperatures. The technology forms part of the company’s new strategy to boost electric-vehicle performance while accelerating charging times, which has long been one of the main challenges for EVs. In addition to faster charging, Blade Battery 2.0 features around 5% higher energy density, longer lifespan, and stricter safety standards than the previous generation. The second-generation battery technology will be deployed in more than 10 models across BYD brands, including Denza, Yangwang, and the Dynasty and Ocean series networks. As a demonstration of the new battery’s capabilities, models such as Denza Z9 GT equipped with the latest Blade Battery can achieve more than 1,000 km of range on a single charge according to the CLTC standard. BYD also introduced a “Flash Charging” strategy to support the fast-charging technology. The company aims to build around 20,000 flash-charging stations in China, including about 2,000 units along expressways.
