BYD Subang Factory Inaugurated; Battery Assembly in Indonesia Planned Next

Subang, West Java - BYD Indonesia has taken its next investment step in the country following the inauguration of its first Indonesian factory, located in the Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Park, West Java, on Thursday.

Eagle Zhao, President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, stated that BYD’s investment in Indonesia will not stop at the newly inaugurated vehicle manufacturing facility, but will also complement the nation’s electric vehicle ecosystem through related battery manufacturing activities.

“Without a comprehensive production process, we cannot claim that a product is entirely made in Indonesia. We are also planning to undertake several assembly tasks related to battery manufacturing,” Eagle said during the factory inauguration.

According to Eagle, this move is part of BYD’s efforts to increase local content, known as the Domestic Component Level (TKDN), within the vehicle production process.

“By 202<0xC2>7, we will certainly be the first to stand in support of TKDN, which will reach 60 per cent. With current preparations, we are very optimistic that our TKDN requirements can be met starting from January 2027, reaching the 60 per cent mark,” Eagle emphasised.
