The BYD Motor Indonesia team is still investigating an electric car that caught fire near the Cikampek toll road gate in Karawang Regency, West Java Province, on 31 July 2026. Head of Marketing, PR, and Government Relations of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, Luther Panjaitan, stated during a press conference in Tangerang, Banten, on Monday that the burnt electric car has been moved to the company’s investigation site. “As of today, the vehicle is still undergoing a comprehensive and complete investigation by the aftersales team, not only from Indonesia but also from expert teams,” he said. He stated that the company cannot yet provide information regarding the cause of the electric car fire as the investigation is still ongoing. The results of the investigation will be conveyed once the inquiry process is complete. Luther conveyed that the company team has explained the details of the vehicle investigation process to the consumer. “We have also helped mediate communication with the relevant authorities on site, so that not long after, still in the morning conditions of that day, we could immediately bring the vehicle to our investigation location,” he said. “The consumer has begun to calm down and understands that this is still in process,” he added. Luther stated that fire incidents like the one that occurred with a single BYD electric car in Cikampek are classified as rare. “Out of more than 92,000 units we have delivered, the incident that occurred with this specific customer’s vehicle has almost never happened in Indonesia,” he said.
