The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) market in Indonesia is poised to become even more crowded. BYD is reportedly set to launch a new model featuring rechargeable hybrid technology in mid-May 2026.

The vehicle is strongly suspected to be the BYD M6 DM-i, the plug-in hybrid version of the BYD M6 electric model currently available in Indonesia.

Information regarding the launch schedule and price leaks has begun circulating from BYD sales personnel. One BYD salesperson mentioned that the new model will launch on 18 May 2026 with an estimated price starting from Rp 320 million to Rp 380 million.

If this price range proves accurate, the BYD M6 PHEV could become the cheapest PHEV in Indonesia.

Currently, that position is held by the Wuling Eksion PHEV CE, sold for Rp 389 million with an early bird price.

This means BYD could reduce the price gap for PHEVs by tens of millions of rupiah, while also opening access to more comprehensive electrification technology to a broader market.

For context, the majority of PHEVs in Indonesia are currently marketed above Rp 400 million.

In the mid-segment, there is the Chery Tiggo 8 CSH line priced from Rp 449.9 million, followed by the Geely Starray EM-i at Rp 499 million.

From premium brands, options include the Lexus NX 450h+ F Sport at Rp 1.6 billion up to the BMW XM starting at Rp 6.4 billion.
