BYD Sealion 08 Set to Launch, with Range Exceeding 1,000 Km

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – BYD is preparing to introduce its latest flagship SUV, the Sealion 08, at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. The model is expected to bring the latest technology, including the second-generation Blade Battery with flash charging features.

The Sealion 08 was previously introduced at BYD’s Ocean Day event in December last year. At that time, the car was estimated to launch in the first quarter of 2026.

Quoted from Carnewschina on Thursday (9/4/2026), in terms of design, the Sealion 08 continues to adopt the Ocean Aesthetics design language that is characteristic of BYD.

Its exterior appearance is equipped with the signature lighting typical of the Ocean Network models, as well as a lidar system mounted on the roof.

Moving to the powertrain sector, BYD will offer two options: the plug-in hybrid DM-i and pure electric. For the electric version, the Sealion 08 is equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery with flash charging technology that allows for very fast charging.

The charging is said to take only about 5 minutes for initial power, 9 minutes to full, and an additional about 3 minutes in cold weather conditions.

For performance, the all-wheel drive (AWD) variant is projected to produce more than 480 kW of power, equivalent to 644 hp, with 0-100 km/h acceleration in under 5 seconds.

Another feature included is rear-wheel steering to improve manoeuvrability. Based on circulating spy photos, there is a fuelling or charging port on both sides of the car, indicating the presence of the DM-i hybrid variant.

With various technological updates and specifications offered, the Sealion 08 has the potential to become one of BYD’s flagship models in the electrified SUV segment.

Its presence at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show will be an important moment to see how ready the model is before it is officially marketed to consumers.
