BYD Sealion 08 Launches in Chinese Market

BYD has officially launched the Sealion 08 in the Chinese market, offering a mid-to-large SUV available in both plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants.

According to a report by CarNewsChina on Wednesday, the BYD Sealion 08 consists of eight variants, priced from 229,900 yuan (approximately Rp607.3 million) to 279,900 yuan (approximately Rp739.3 million).

Featuring the “Ocean Aesthetics 2.0” design language, the car’s front is equipped with “Ice Eye” Daytime Running Lights (DRL). The Sealion 08 boasts an elongated shoulder line and a sleek body design. The vehicle is available with 20 or 21-inch wheels, featuring centre caps that ensure the brand logo remains upright while the wheels rotate.

The rear of the car features a 1,982 mm light bar with a gradient design inspired by deep-sea tides. The model is available in both five and six-seat configurations.

The cabin is equipped with a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and a 26-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD). Comfort features include front seats with eight-way electric adjustments, including heating, ventilation, and a 10-point massage function. In the six-seat version, the driver’s seat and the rear right passenger seat feature zero-gravity capabilities, and the rear seats are capable of lateral sliding.

Entertainment for rear passengers includes a 21.4-inch high-resolution ceiling-mounted screen and a 25-speaker Devialet audio system with Dolby Atmos support. The Sealion 08 also includes a 7.3-litre refrigerator. Boot capacity varies by configuration: the five-seater offers 943 litres in the rear and 201 litres in the front, while the six-seater offers 317 litres in the rear and 201 litres in the front, which can expand to 1,173 litres when seats are folded.

The Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) model utilises a 1.5T system with a maximum engine output of 115 kW. The single-motor variant produces 200 kW (268 hp), while the dual-motor variant uses two motors, each capable of 200 kW (268 hp). The PHEV version is equipped with a second-generation Blade Battery with a capacity of 55.843 kWh, offering an electric-only range of between 350 km and 400 km (CLTC), with a combined range of up to 1,650 km.

The Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) models include a rear-wheel-drive single-motor version producing 370 kW (497 hp). An all-wheel-drive variant uses dual motors, with a front motor producing 215 kW (288 hp) and a rear motor producing 370 kW (497 hp). The BEV variant uses a second-generation Blade Battery with a capacity of 115.072 kWh, offering a range between 800 and 900 km based on the CLTC standard.

The BYD Sealion 08 features double-wishbone front suspension and five-link rear suspension. It is also equipped with the DiSus-A intelligent air suspension system, which supports road condition reading, active rear-wheel steering, crab walk mode, and an anti-rollover system. Additionally, the vehicle is supported by the “God’s Eye 5.0” intelligent driving system.
